Galvanized Pipes & Tubes

Grace Steel Tubes is one of the large manufacturers of high-quality Galvanized Water Line pipes. This type of pipe is not covered by any specification, although the outside diameter (O.D.) and the wall thickness (W.T.) are defined by other specifications for pipes that are not galvanized. Schedule 40 pipe is usually butt welded and hot-formed, or cold-formed and high frequency welded. After being formed into a pipe and cut, an individual length of pipe is involved in a molten zinc bath (usually containing lead) until the desired zinc coating weight is successfully achieved. The finished pipe usually has a total zinc weight for both OD and ID combined of 1.8 oz/sq ft. Since there are no specifications for such types of pipes, galvanizing is usually performed per ASTM A123 standard. The mechanical properties of this type of pipe differ according to the method of manufacturing. However, the distinctive quality of a particular type’s yield strength is around 30,000 psi.
